From Calling to Purpose: The Spiritual Literary Journey of Christian Author Sarah Dickens

By Eva

In a world where storytelling is often driven by trends, timelines, and commercial expectations, Sarah Dickens stands apart as a voice of divine purpose—an author whose writing flows not merely from talent, but from spiritual calling. With a foundation rooted deeply in faith, authenticity, and emotional transparency, Sarah has emerged as one of the most compelling Christian memoirists of this generation.

Her path to authorship, however, did not begin with instant success or conventional inspiration. Instead, it began with a whisper from childhood, a seed planted by God long before she realized its destiny.

A Childhood Declaration That Became a Destiny

Sarah’s earliest memory of her calling dates back to Kindergarten. When her teacher asked the classic question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” her classmates dreamed of becoming doctors, teachers, and lawyers. But Sarah, with a childlike clarity that only God could inspire, replied:

“I want to be an author.”

This wasn’t just a passing answer—it was a declaration. A prophecy spoken by a little girl who, even then, understood the power of words. She soon wrote and illustrated her very first children’s book, “A Rewarding Night,” marking the symbolic beginning of her journey.

Throughout her school years, her talent shined. Teachers read her essays aloud in class, praising the depth and originality of her writing. Though life pulled her onto other paths for a season, the calling never died—it simply waited for God’s perfect timing.

A Career Built on Faith, Prayer, and Obedience

Before officially becoming an author, Sarah worked as a news editor for Atlanta Christian Voice from 2017 to 2022. This chapter refined her writing, strengthened her discipline, and prepared her spirit for the next step.

But eventually, after deep prayer and divine prompting, God called her to leave her editorial role and walk boldly into authorship.

In February 2022, Sarah published her first Christian memoir, “A Victory Song: Beneath the Veil.”
This book officially marked the beginning of her career as a full-time author—a calling she embraced with courage and faith.

A Victory Song: A Series Led by the Holy Spirit

What began as plans for a trilogy soon transformed into something far greater. In prayer, God revealed to Sarah that A Victory Song was not meant to stop at three books—it was to become a full, ongoing series.

Today, Sarah has published two books in the series:

  • A Victory Song: Beneath the Veil (2022)
  • A Victory Song: Thoughts of Peace (2025)

And she is actively writing two more:

  • A Victory Song: Thoughts of Power
  • A Victory Song: Declarations of Light

Alongside these, she is creating her first children’s illustrated book titled “She Walks With Jesus,” with artwork drawn by Sarah herself—a rare combination of artistic and literary gifting.

Each book is a testament to her faith, her lived experiences, and her devotion to using writing as a vessel for healing.

Bridging the Gap Between Faith and Mental Health

One of the most powerful elements of Sarah’s work is her mission to break the stigma surrounding mental illness within faith communities.

Through her memoirs, she openly discusses bipolar disorder, struggles with self-image, moments of deep despair, and even thoughts of suicide—not with shame, but with courage and God-led honesty.

Her message is revolutionary yet tender:

“It is okay to seek help. It is okay to see a counselor. It is okay to go to a psychiatric hospital. And it is okay to call on Jesus while doing all of these things.”

Sarah believes that faith and professional mental health support can exist harmoniously—that Jesus works through doctors, counselors, medication, and divine intervention all at once.

Her vulnerability is not just storytelling; it is ministry.

A Writing Style That Is Bold, Brave, and Unashamedly Authentic

What makes Sarah’s voice truly unique is her fearless authenticity. She writes exactly as she feels—raw, heartfelt, and deeply relatable. She does not hide her wounds; she offers them as proof of God’s healing.

Her readers do not simply read her books—they walk with her through valleys, prayer rooms, hospital doors, and spiritual breakthroughs. She invites them into her journey with a purity that makes her writing both powerful and healing.

Divine Inspiration Behind Every Project

Unlike many authors who map out long-term strategies, Sarah follows a different compass: the Holy Spirit.

Her ideas often arrive during ordinary moments—on a bus ride, during a walk, while journaling. She sees them not as coincidences, but as divine downloads from God. She captures them instantly in her journal or laptop, trusting that God is guiding every word.

For Sarah, writing is worship. It is obedience. It is partnership with divine purpose.

Motivation Rooted in Grace and Growth

With each book she writes, her motivation deepens. She sees her growing body of work as evidence of God’s faithfulness. The success she has already achieved fuels her desire to keep writing more, to serve more, and to fulfill the calling spoken over her life since childhood.

A Milestone Beyond Words

One of Sarah’s proudest achievements is publishing her second memoir in August 2025—A Victory Song: Thoughts of Peace.

The book took three years of writing, editing, and emotional processing. In it, she courageously shares personal battles, time spent in psychiatric hospitals, and how God’s peace restored her spirit.

It is her testament to resilience, faith, and the transformative power of God’s love.

Looking Toward a Future of Light

Sarah’s upcoming books promise even deeper revelations, emotional strength, and spiritual insight. She continues to walk faithfully in her calling while inspiring others to embrace healing, honesty, and hope.

Her journey is not just about writing books.
It is about shining God’s light—one page at a time.
