Redefining Boundaries of Art

Evaldas Gulbinas, a Lithuanian tattoo and fine artist, has redefined the boundaries of art, merging tattooing with fine art in a way that provokes thought, challenges convention, and invites deep self-reflection. His journey from Kėdainiai, Lithuania, to the global art stage in London exemplifies his passion, dedication, and unwavering pursuit of artistic exploration.

Early Fascination with Art

Born and raised in Kėdainiai, Gulbinas’s fascination with art began at an early age. By seven, he was already involved in various art activities, eventually enrolling in Kėdainiai Art School at thirteen. Here, he honed his skills in sculpture, drawing, installation, and painting, laying the groundwork for his future. His time at the M.K. Čiurlionis National Art School in Vilnius advanced his abilities in mixed media and life drawing, ensuring his foundation in art was as comprehensive as it was intense.

Tattooing as a Creative Path

In 2009, Gulbinas relocated to London, where he encountered the world of tattooing. What started as a pastime soon became a career, with Gulbinas training as an apprentice before becoming a professional tattoo artist. His fascination with the art of tattooing was not just about the technique; it was a way for him to express his artistic philosophy. He seamlessly incorporated elements of avant-garde, abstract pop-art surrealism, cubism, and oriental styles into his tattoo work, creating designs that were not only visually striking but intellectually profound.

Pursuit of Artistic Mastery

Despite his success as a tattoo artist, Gulbinas’s pursuit of artistic mastery did not stop there. In 2014, he enrolled at West Thames College to pursue a foundation in art and design, eventually earning a Bachelor’s in Fine Art from the University of Westminster in 2019. His academic journey culminated with a Master’s in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London, in 2022. This formal education not only refined his technical skills but also deepened his understanding of the theory behind art, allowing him to push the boundaries of creative expression even further.

Exploring Multiple Art Forms

Gulbinas’s work spans various mediums, including sculpture, painting, installations, and digital art. His pieces explore complex themes such as social change, freedom, conflict, and human identity. His philosophy revolves around constant exploration, experimentation, and the fluidity between different art forms. One of his most notable works is his intricate sculptures on metal sheets, a blend of engraving and painting that showcases his bold and sophisticated style.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Gulbinas’s art has been exhibited in galleries across the United Kingdom, Italy, and Canada, with notable exhibitions such as “Sisyphean” at Fitzrovia Art Gallery in London and “Be Rosso Cinabro” at Rossocinabro Art Gallery in Rome. His work has also been featured in prestigious publications like AATONAU Magazine, NYK Daily, and London Daily Post.

A Defining Artistic Moment

A defining moment in his career came in 2024 when he participated in an artistic project at Lukiskes Prison. This unique environment, combining artistry, music, and cultural exchange, showcased Gulbinas’s ability to transcend boundaries, both physical and artistic, and demonstrated his relentless pursuit of new territories in art.

Fostering an Inclusive Art Community

Beyond his personal achievements, Gulbinas is committed to fostering an inclusive and open artistic community. He actively participates in workshops, collaborative projects, and mentorship programs, encouraging young artists to explore their creative potential and break free from traditional artistic constraints.

Challenging Conventions, Reflecting Humanity

In every piece he creates, whether on canvas, metal, or skin, Evaldas Gulbinas pushes the boundaries of what art can be. His work is a mirror reflecting the complexities of the human condition, a daring exploration of identity, freedom, and societal change. As an artist, he continues to challenge conventions, leaving an indelible mark on the world of contemporary art.
